good ole' Strathroy

Okay I live in a pretty small town, Strathroy's population is about 20,000, so really small compared to London and Sarnia. Our town is actually known as a "Hick town," because it isn't out of the ordinary for someone to drive a tractor to school. In fact people drove tractors to prom! Now don't get me wrong we don't all live on farms, I live in a suburb. Also we do have restaurants, and movie stores, but if we want to go shopping we have to drive into London. If we want to go to the movies we have to drive into London, or if we want to sit out and get some sun, we usually all go to Grand Bend. Little kids pretty much go to school grounds to play on equipment, teenagers have to entertain themselves somehow, and adults, who knows how they entertain themselves in Strathroy. I think you might be starting to catch my drift on how boring this town can actually get.

My friend Ashley had her 18th birthday party last night, just a couple of friends came over, we sat around a fire making smores, and doing other things that teenagers usually do at parties. Then her mom said how she had some games for us to play. See me being 18, when she says games im thinking that pin the tail on the donkey which unfortunately I grow out of about 12 years ago. Then she says she was watching Ellen and got the idea from that. She reminds us of the game when there were two partners and they were both blindfolded, and one had to feed the other one ice cream while sitting behind them putting their hands through their arms. We got all ready for the game, I was playing with my friend Kristy, and she had to feed me. We had 1 minute to see how much we could all eat. Now the whole time she was shoving ice cream in my mouth, up my nose, and in my eyes I could not stop laughing, I actually thought I was going to throw up because I was laughing so hard while having a mouth full of ice cream and bananas. I have to say I did lose that round. We played again because it was actually really funny the first time. I was with my other friend Jessica being fed again... I did alot better this time, but still didn't win. It was honestly the funniest thing ever. Now if you are ever wondering what small towns do for fun.. you have a good idea now:)

Reinvention?

We all know that celebrities have there 15 minutes of fame. Sometimes they have more, depending on how good of celebrity they are. Beyonce has been in the spotlight for a good 10 years and she has always maintained a level or normalcy to herself. Then he have stars like, Britney Spears, Backstreet boys, Eminem, etc. They are very popular when they come out, make a couple cd's that go platinum, go play at hundreds of concerts and award shows, then out of no where they just disappear. Well not so much disappear for Britney Spears because she stayed in the tabloids long after she went off the deep end. They stop making music though, a couple years pass and you hear about a comeback. Can celebrities truely have a successful comeback into the music industry?

I mean some people can do it, and do it well. Look at Eminem, his new cd is doing really well, but then there are people like the Backstreet Boys who disappear come back with a new cd, you hear maybe one song off the cd on the radio, then they disappear again, and so on and so fourth. Britney Spears is a prime example, she tried coming out with a new cd called "Blackout," with the infamous song, "Gimme more," well I think we can all say that cd bombed. It didn't help that she was going through a time with what seemed to be a mental breakdown. There were pictures of her in magazines attacking paparazzi, shaving her head, driving with her kids on her lap. So I can't say I expected anymore. Then she came out with her newest cd with hits, "Womanizer", "If you seek amy", and "Circus," and it seemed like she may have cleaned her act up. I guess what I am trying to say is should celebrities be content with what they have been successful with before and if that happens to fade out try again? There are so many bands and singers that have amazing voices but the more celebrities that are big right now try to make comebacks it isn't giving the people who are trying to get into the business any help. We can only handle so much, "Gimme gimme more, gimme more, gimme gimme more."

The beach does not like me!

It seems like the beach is really not a friend of me and my friend Kristy. Everytime we plan to go, it seems to beautiful then driving there, the weather turns bad! We went near the beginning of summer to take some pictures with the sunset, it was gorgeous when we were at my house, but then on the way there we noticed something alittle odd.... everyone was leaving as we were going. That isn't exactly what you want to see while wanting to go see the sunset. All the sudden the sun is hiding behind the clouds, then you see the storm clouds rolling in. Even though it seemed like we were the only car driving into Grand Bend, and there was at least 60 cars that passed us coming back we decided might as well go on a drive. We are about 5 minutes away and it starts pouring, not even like a steady not bad pour, it was pouring so bad I almost pulled over because even my wipes on he highest setting didn't help! We did manage to get about 2 or 3 decent pictures of the sunset but it wasn't exactly what we were hoping for.

That is not all though, We had been planning to go up to our friends cottage for about 2 weeks. The Weather Network was saying there was a chance a rain, but I figured that maybe our luck would turn around. When we were driving there it was all cloudy! We get into Grand Bend and it looks like it is about to pour once again, hopefully it didn't but it would cloudy most of the time we were at the beach! Then for once this summer our luck turns around and the clouds cleared and it was such a beautiful sunny day. The moral of the story is, when you plan to go somewhere it doesn't end up how you want it to. We have decided we are going to not plan to go to the beach and hopefully when we go it is an amazing day!

Dancing Evolution anyone?

This video is simply one of the best things I have ever seen! Everytime I watch it I laugh so hard I have tears in my eyes. I bet some of you will even try to re-create this dance after!

Enjoy:)

Music is medicine

Have you ever had a time when your feeling really down about something... Break up? Bad mark on a test? fight with your friends? Did you go straight to your ipod, or turn your stereo right up? Well it isn't doctor approved, but music is truely a medicine that can help. Music is an outlet for people, you listen to what your feeling. Feeling alittle sad, go listen to The Fray. Feeling mad, go listen to Eminem. For every emontion you are feeling there is most likely a artist or band that can help you through it. Artist and Bands don't just write music for us to enjoy it, they write songs for us to relate to them.

Now my music of choose for when I am feeling upset is The Fray, they aren't the bad that just writes songs without meaning, all of their songs has a story behind it. They have a song, "Happiness" and it was wrote about his Grandpa who is living in a retirement house and married a lady he fell in love with. Songs with a meaning behind them seem to have a bigger impact on people. I don't think that there is anyone in this world who doesn't have a relationship with music. It helps you through hard times, when nothing else can. I am not only saying that it will only help you through hard times, whenever I want to be pumped up I listen to, "Summer Girl," by Stereos. Always puts a smile on my face. All I am saying is whatever mood your feeling listen to music, because it sure beats going to the doctors!

Summer?

So we are almost into August, and I can honestly say that this summer has not even felt like summer. I mean lets think about it, we have had about 2 weeks of almost straight rain. I don't thinkI can even remember the last really sunny day out! Usually around this time we have had at least 15 days of hot and humidity. Not the case, we have most likely have had more rainy days then sunny days. Can summer jst begin to get alittle better, all I am asking is for some amazing sun days, is that to much to ask for? All I can think is what ever happened to Global Warming?

Also this doesn't feel like summer to me either because I have pretty much only been working, (I work at Shoppers Dug Mart) and doing this online class. The first time I did something other then those two things was last Tuesday. I went to my friends cottage in Grand Bend, granted for the first couple hours I was there it was cloudy, but hopefully my luck turned around and it got very sunny out. It turned out to be a really good night, but you always have a good time when friends are around! All I am hoping is that August brings some Sun, and some fun. What kind of summer would this be without the two!

Michael Jackson

I know what you're all thinking, she is writing about Michael Jackson?! Well before you all stop reading, im not going to write about his "weird," life I am simply going to talk about him for what he was.. a great preformer. To be honest I didn't listen to all of his music, not even that much of it, I loved thriller, and have heard songs like: "Billy Jean", "Black or White", "Beat it", etc. All very good songs. I mean musicians around the world took songs he did and made them into very different things, for example David Cook who won American Idol re-did "Billy jean," and it was an amazing hit. Michael has set the bar for preformers. The thing I believe he was best known for was his dancing, the best example I can think of is the moon walk. People all around the world have tried to re-create it or even try to top it, but in reality nothing compares.

Recently as you all know, the "King Of Pop," died tragically. All I have to say about that is leave the guy alone! He is dead, why is there such a need to pick apart everything he did, or his appearance. We should all be able to remember him as one of the best musicians of all time. I hope that his music lives on for decades and decades to come because I mean he truely did a great job in his career. Not many preformers now could or can last as long as he did. So everyone, go listen to some of his songs and remember him as he lived. I can imagine most of you will go listen to "Thiller," and I know you will be doing the dance in your head:)

Perfect example of people trying to re-create his dances!
